Date: December 29, 2002
Location: Axis - Boston, MA
Bands: Taking Back Sunday, Coheed & Cambria, The Exit, My Chemical Romance
At a sold out show in Boston, Taking Back Sunday, Coheed and Cambria, The Exit, and My Chemical Romance brought down the Axis nightclub on Lansdowne Street.
The first band was My Chemical Romance. These guys really love what they do, and you can tell. They are all over the stage and in the crowd and do a lot to make sure the crowd is involved. Some longtime fans from Connecticut and even some kids from Canada had come to Boston to support these guys, who will also be opening for Finch and The Used in February. Any fan of the Used or Finch is sure to love these guys who have a pumped insane atmosphere and loud yet deep lyrics. My only complaint is that the singer's voice was completely drowned out by the music the entire time.
The second band was The Exit. I don't really have much to say for this band. They had a little energy, but nothing compared to MCR. Their sound is somewhat mellow and monotonous, and they barely communicated with the crowd. A few kids were bopping their heads, but there wasn't much love for them tonight.
The third band was Coheed and Cambria. Their set was one big sing a long. Almost every person there knew the lyrics to every song. The band had a lot of energy and put their all into their set. They played a new song with a few crowd favorites such as "Devil In Jersey City", "Time Consumer", and more. They had the entire crowd throwing their arms in the air and going crazy. Definitely a band worth checking out, you won't be disappointed.
Finally came Taking Back Sunday. They barely stood still for more than a second throughout the entire set. They talked to the crowd between every song, and Boston responded great with an insane pit and lots of crowdsurfers. They played one or two new songs, as well as songs such as "Great Romances of the 20th Century" (featured on the Warped compilation), "Cute without the E (Cut from the Team)", "Bike Scene" and more. The band's energy spread into the crowd, with the Adam (vocals) constantly throwing the microphone into the crowd to let the fans sing, as well as throwing it around his neck! I've yet to see a band perform with more insane energy than these guys. Even after their last song, the crowd began chanting for one more song. The guys responded by coming back out and singing "Head Club" and "You're So Last Summer". If you have never seen Taking Back Sunday live, make it a priority to do so. And be sure to check out their CD "Tell All Your Friends". And please, tell all your friends.
