Date: December 28, 2002
Location: The Metro - Chicago, IL
Bands: Lucky Boys Confusion, 504 Plan, Fertility, 15 Minutes Late
This was the 2nd annual “Songs from a Scene” show, held at The Metro. "Songs from a Scene" is a show started by LBC in which a few of the best Chicago area bands perform for one hell of a show with LBC as headliners. For those of you don’t know, The Metro is a very historic place when it comes to music, that is because it is where the first and last Smashing pumpkins shows were. When I walked in the door I couldn’t wait to get up to the concert floor because this was my first concert since October. 504 Plan kicked off the show with a really good set (they played at Warped in Chicago if any of you caught that show). Next came Fertility. They were similar to Finch in sound, a hardcore kind of band. They not only mixed in heavy metal and punk, but did it well. Fertility’s lead guitarist, Julian Vena, I thought was amazing. He is only 16 years old and plays so well and with so much power. 15 Minutes Late came on next with what I thought was a really good set. They didn’t sound as good as they could have because the lead singer/guitarist had a bad cut on his finger and I think that was affecting them a bit. However, I’ve seen them before and they’re capable of doing much better. Then there was Lucky Boys Confusion. They started their set off with a song from their new album, which should be out sometime this summer. They mixed up their set with old, new songs, as well as some tracks that will be on their upcoming album. My favorite part was when they played the song “Arizona Stand”. It is one of my favorite songs by them, but the lead singer, Stubhy, doesn’t like the song so they never play it. It was awesome that they chose to play that song. To close their amazing set, they played “3-10” which they always play to close any show. That song is so fast and has so much energy, it's just the right way to end any show. Out of all the concerts I’ve been to, this goes down as one of the best, and definitely the craziest. For those of you who have never heard Lucky Boys, I highly recommend you check them out at www.luckyboysconfusion.com.
