Date: April 18, 2003
Location: The Pickle Barrel - Killington, VT
Bands: Reel Big Fish, Home Grown, Lost City Angels
I was psyched when i heard that Reel Big Fish was going to play in Vermont, seeing as I have been an RBF fan for a few years now. The Pickle Barrel is a bar in Killington, VT with live music most nights that's 21+, but this time they made the show all ages. There was already a bit of a line outside the place to get in when I got there, and it was starting to fill up, so I was glad I had my ticket already, although I don't know if it sold out by the end of the night. Lost City Angels and Home Grown were the first two bands. As the first guitar chord was struck, you could tell the place had good sound. It's a tiny place with huge speakers, and the small floor was filling up quickly. The Lost City Angles played some sick punk rock music, but I don't remember too much about them. Next up was Home Grown. I'd only heard a few Home Grown songs before, and never disliked them, but never had a huge love for them either. Seeing them live was awesome, it definitely made me a Home Grown fan. By the time Home Grown was half way through their set, people were already starting to try to work there way up through the crowd to the stage. Then the band of the night, Reel Big Fish, took the stage! Well, well, they sounded so great! This was my first time seeing them, and the crowd was psyched when they came out, the whole floor was packed. But you see, there was no moshing or crowd surfing allowed - nothing. The people around me were constantly getting pulled out, it was crazy. Even I have to admit that I never really liked RBF's new CD "Cheer Up" much, in fact I even disliked it…until I saw them play songs from it live. They just sounded so good, it brought the CD alive for me. From then on, I was hooked on that CD…well for a few weeks anyway. I walked away humming the new Reel Big Fish songs all the way home.
