Now, we all know how partial the Toxic staff is to this great band from the northeast, but I'll try to be objective.
The River City Rebels have managed to withstand the comings and goings of members for over 3 years. Their latest release, "No Good, No Time, No Pride" shows that as long as the passion is still there, no amount of lineup changes can destroy the drive. RCR manages to meld brazen guitars with untraditional horns for a sound all their own. Singer Dan O'Day's unique voice added to the mix gives this band an irresistable, catchy sound.
The album opens with "You're Such A Bore", a song with brash lyrics condemning the boredom of those who live life by following all the trends. Next up are two crowd favorites, "Aborted" and "Drunken Angel", two tracks that really set the pace for the disc. "Life's A Drag", the next track, which is about not giving a fuck and living life to its fullest is an instant hit among the teenage crowd. Number 5, "No Time" is one of the album's title tracks. A song about not sitting around and waiting for things to happen, but rather getting out there and making them happen. "No Good" is purely a sing-a-long about not conforming to the standards of society, or not being "good" enough.
By the time you reach track number 7, "Pass The Basket", it's obvious that this band is saying exactly how they feel about current issues. "Pass The Basket" takes a stab at the controversy surrounding religion and the church. "US Crush" talks about the marketing of patriotism and the false sense of it present in the United States now.
Overall, this album is awesome. It captures the insane live energy of a River City Rebels show, as well as the fun and dancing. If you don't believe me, go see them for yourself. These twelve tracks represent the band's opinions on a variety of issues, both fun and serious, without being sugarcoated. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
