Interview with Pete from Fall Out Boy
March 6, 2004 at the Webster Theatre in Hartford, CT.
By Lisa

Big thanks goes out to Lisa for getting the interview done super fast, Pete for being interviewed and Christina for setting it up!

Lisa: What made you sign to Fueled by Ramen Records and then switch to Island?
Pete: Uhmm.. orignally we signed to Fueled By Ramen because we thought they were really honest people and we switched to Island because we wanted our music to get out to probably the most rockers we could and they're probably the most arts friendly major that we dealt with.

Lisa: What bands have influenced you?
Pete: Lifetime, The Descendents, Green Day, The Police, Elvis Costello, The Cure, Rogers and Low, lots...

Lisa: What bands would you like to tour with in the future?
Pete : Uh, a band called Kent..Brand New uhh I don't know, thats all I probably know, there's a long list I think.

Lisa: How did you end up touring with Mest?
Pete: I don't know, I guess its the tour, I don't really know how it happened. I'm not sure if their manager had the cd, if they had the cd, I don't know if mest did the tour...thats it...(band starts playing above us screwing up the sound) .

Lisa: I was able to catch you guys on IMX, what was it like being on IMX?:
Pete: Its weird 'cause you're not used to being in front of a camera 'cause ya know, you're a band, but at the same time its like all the people who are like fans of you, or your kind of music so like all the kids there were cool about it ya know?
Lisa: Did you know that their host was on Queer Eye For the Straight Guy?
Pete: That's what we heard, but I didn't get to see it.

Lisa: What overseas date are you most excited for?
Pete: Probably the London show... (continues talking, but I can't make it out).

Lisa: Have you ever been overseas before?
Pete: I've been to Europe with my family.
Lisa: How was that?
Pete: It was alright.
Lisa: Just alright?
Pete: Naw, I mean its weird, its different going with your family then with your friends.

Lisa: What has been your favorite venue so far?
Pete: Uhh Metro, I don't know, I don't really have a favorite.

Lisa: So tell me, who in your opinion rocks harder, East Coast or West Coast?
Pete: Uhhh its different, its a different kind of rock sound 'cause I guess like the West Coast was later to catch on with us, but like the East Coast is like, every single word is like (cant hear)... the West Coast is more laid back, they're two different types, they're both really cool. The Midwest is usually the best, nobody knows about it so we play best there.
Lisa: 'Cause I know most bands will say that we rock harder...
Pete: People say it on the West Coast usually, I know Tony [Mest] says it a lot.
Lisa: That the East Coast rocks harder?
Pete: Yeah , most bands kind of say that, I don't know, its all different except for Florida. The south is horrible, they're all bands...you're better and nobody cares.
Sara: (mimicking) Ya'll are so good, ya'll are groovy! Ya'll are awesome! My mom's from Texas, I should shut up. *laughing*

Lisa: What albums are currently residing in your cd player?
Pete: Uhmm Nightmare of You, Devils Therapy(?), (something I can't make out), Give Up The Ghost, Festival Of (?) , Matchbook Romance.

Lisa: What's your tour bus past time?
Pete: I watch DVD's most of the time.

Lisa: Any move/book/video game recommendations?
Pete: i just watched the movie The Good Girl, its awesome.
Sara: You know what movie you should see is 13.
Pete: I just saw that.
Sara: What did you think of it?
Pete: It was alright, its very kids though.
Sara: Yeah, but its good.
(Sara and Pete continue talking about "13" but I can't make out what they're saying)

Lisa: Any venues you aren't going to/didn't get a chance to visit that you would have liked to?
Pete: Canada, most of the venues are a little too small or a little too big on this tour. A lot of the shows sold out really fast, like the club shows, some of the venues are big to the point of where kids are getting hurt so I don't know.
Lisa: The worst thing is when you're trying to watch a band and you get kicked in the head by a crowd surfer.
Pete: Yeah, yeah, and there's not really much we can do about it.
Sara: Or when the crowd surfers steal your hat.
Lisa: Yeah, girls can't crowdsurf 'cause they get groped.
Pete: Yeah, yeah, thats true.
Sara: Girls shouldn't wear skirts too concerts, 'cause then guys come up to you and they're like "Hey baby," and you're like "Hey, excuse you, where do you think YOUR hands are going?"

Lisa: If you weren't pursuing music what do you think you'd be doing?
Pete: Uh I'd probably be dead.

Lisa: This is a question I saw from Joanne, who owns the magazine that I write for. If you were stranded on a desert island, who do you think you'd eat first? (Joanne's note: We originally stole this question from Overated Mag...we love you guys.)
Pete: In the band?
Lisa: Yeah.
Pete: Joe probably...
Lisa: Why is that? Pete: He's like meaty, but he's like really lazy, so its like, it would definitely be like...
Lisa: So if it was a survivor thing, he wouldn't survive?
Pete: Yeah.
Sara: Its like I love you but you look so good right now.
Pete: Its not that he's fat, its like he's a little pudgy.
Sara: But pudgy guys are cute!
Pete: Yeah, definitely! Patrick's got a little too much, he's got like a (grizzly?) problem, so Joe would be good.

Lisa: What was your worst line of work before making it into music? Lisa: Well, this is it, parting is such sweet sorrow. So, any final words, shout outs, weird noises you'd like to add before we go our merry ways?
Pete: Uhmm... falloutboyrock.com! Uhm, noises?
Lisa: Yeah, some people do random noises.
Pete: *laughs*
Lisa: Well that's it.
Pete: You did a good job, it was good.
