Much thanks to Trevor for setting it up and making sure it happened, and to David for being really rad and taking the time to do it.
Joanne: Is there a second album you guys are making? Like have you written any songs?
Joanne: Who inspired you to begin making music? Joanne: What's in your CD player right now? Joanne: What is the best thing a fan has ever done for you?
Joanne: What's the worst thing a fan has ever done? Joanne: What's it like being compared to other bands such as Good Charlotte and Blink-182 and others?
Joanne: What are your favorite songs on the album to perform and why?
Joanne: What's your favorite place outside of North America to play?
Joanne: You guys were just on TRL, how was that?
Joanne: Tell us about the video for Addicted.
Joanne: Do you have any tattoos or do you plan on getting any?
Joanne: What's your favorite flavor of Gatorade?
Joanne: What color is your toothbrush?
Joanne: If you could meet any famous person dead or alive who would it be?
Joanne: If you could only wear one item of clothing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Joanne: If you could eliminate one song off your album which one would it be?
Joanne: What do you think of when you hear the word pink?
Joanne: What about sushi?
Joanne: What do you want to have accomplished when you're old and grey?
Joanne: Do you have any last words?
For More Information:
David: No, no we haven't barely had time to sleep to be honest with you.
Joanne: Yeah, I saw you guys were in Philly last night.
David: That's nothing, sometimes we do like overnight flights to L.A. then we come back for like a day.
Joanne: That's crazy!
David: I know! *laughter*
David: For me it's totally Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day. He's the reason why I sing today. And its all like punk rock bands, like California punk rock bands like Lagwagon, MxPx, Blink-182, like a lot. That whole scene like Strung Out, Ten Foot Pole, the whole California scene like 6 or 7 years ago and then we all kept on listening to those bands. You know, stuff like that.
David: The Used. It's one of my favorite CDs of the year. The Used and the Good Charlotte CD are one of my 2 favorite CDs of the year. A band called Gob, their Canadian, their new record is going to come out April 29th. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to say that or not. *laughter* I heard it, and I was lucky enough to hear it. It's like their bigshot item, it's coming out on Arista records. I'm really stoked for them, they've been doing that for a long time. And we're actually going to do some shows with them.
Joanne: Yeah, I might go see them with Avril...
David: Right on. You know what, Avril is actually really good. She sings really good. We played three shows with her in December, and yeah she's really talented and she was really nice to me. She's really nice.
David: Um, there's a bunch of stuff you know, like, in Japan when they waited for us at the airport. Like I felt like in the fucking Beatles you know what I mean *laughter*, like holy fuck. This is pretty crazy. I can't believe you know fans that show up at like 11 in the morning just to make sure they are gonna have the best spot or uh…sometimes they make like teddy bears and shit like that and that's pretty cool.
David: The worst thing…I have no idea. It's a really hard question..the worst thing. I dunno, I think it's kinda weird when they draw something on their face, ya know?
Joanne: Yeah, we saw about 5 girls with stuff drawn on their face.
David: Tonight?
Joanne: Yep
David: I think it's really nice and it shows they really like the band, but I don't know I think it's weird. Kind of scary.
David: You know what, it's uh…in this industry if you jump in and you want to have like competition with other bands you're not gonna go too far. And it's all about, we're good friends with Good Charlotte, Blink 182 as well. And its just, ya know what, we're fans of those bands, and its like a big compliment to be associated with them. And I think the real music lover is gonna listen to those three bands and if their really music lovers their gonna find like differences. You know what I mean like, we're all in the same genre but like between you and me Good Charlotte's like really different than Blink 182 and we're different, ya know what I mean?
David: Hmm…it changes sometimes. But now I like…I like Meet You There, a lot. 'Cause we just started to play it because its kinda like new to headline our own shows you know, we've been opening for bands and supporting and stuff like that. Now we get to headline so, it's a lot more tiring but you know, it's all good. But now we incorporated this song which is one of my favorite to perform.
Davod: Fuck...Japan...and Australia.
David: It was Totally Retarded Live. *laughter* Yeah, that's uh, I dunno, it was cool because we knew like everybody…
Nat: I hate that show...
David: Oh what TRL? Oh I think its lame, they don't even show the whole fucking video, what the fuck is that?
*Chuck came in and said something…and I think Pierre said something, but David was still talking and I can't tell what he said*
David: But you gotta admit it was a great opportunity, ya know what I mean? Like the Used played it, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, The Donnas, like if, ya know what I mean, it's a great opportunity. I dunno, like most bands that think, you know what most bands that say that its not cool to do that, like this is what I think, they would probably suck penises to go on that show, no offense but…
*laughter*
David: I was actually there for The Used as well, the day before. I was hiding, they were there, I like them.
David: It's a lot about performance, like there's no, there's not really like a storyline or whatever. It's just us playing in this room and it kinda like falls apart as we play by the jumping and shit like that. It's a pretty cool video, I like it. It was a hard working day until like 6 in the morning. It was pretty fucked up, our bus broke down, we got there like 5 hours late, lost a lot of money.
David: I don't have any tattoos, I'm still a tattoo virgin. None of us have a tattoo for now. You know what, I'm planning on getting some, but something that really means a lot, you know what I mean. I'm not sure if I'm going to go like the full arms and shit like that but I do like tattoos. But sometimes you look at it and you go like maybe it looks better on somebody else. But, I dunno, I know, a lot of people expect you to have tattoos because of the whole fucking…
Joanne: Rockstar thing…
David: Yeah, like, there's one thing that makes it easier for us to have tattoos is that if it keeps going well you know, we're probably never going to have like a normal job which is cool because sometimes stupid people don't accept that for some stupid reasons but I dunno. Um, I'll get something like maybe like a big word on my back that means a lot. I dunno, a big ??? (note: I think he said GC, but I'm not sure. The recorder fuzzed).
David: I'm not a big Gatorade fan. Jeff loves Gatorade. The frost ones.
Joanne: What kind did you have today?
Nat: I dunno, strawberry.
David: Oh really? Yeah, they have mango…the new one, mango.
David: It's purple right now.
David: Madonna.
Joanne: Why?
David: I have a lot of respect for that woman. She rules the world, I think. She changed a lot of things and she was always ahead of everybody.
David: Just boxers. Or just like a swimming suit because I'd try to be on some island and swim all the time.
David: You know what, it sounds cocky but I don't think I would eliminate one because all those songs, like we had a lot of songs, but you can think it sounds pretentious but I think we worked really hard to have an album with, to us, we think, none of those songs, like this album could not be the same with one of the songs out of the album and I stand for it and I like all the songs personally but that doesn't mean everybody thinks that.
Joanne: Yeah, you guys re-released it with the Christmas song and Grow Up right?
David: Yeah, the Christmas song I love, it's too bad its got Christmas lyrics because we can't really play that in July. But I like it a lot.
David: I think of Pink. I love Pink, the girl? I love her. I saw her three weeks ago in Hawaii. I had one of the best shows of my life. It was great, her band is fucking tight. Her bass player is really nice, I talked a lot with her. They're all awesome. My favorite instrument is drums, and the drummer is so kick ass. And at Christmas I was at home, believe it or not, for like two days, with my girlfriend and we watched the whole show with Pink, kinda like on MTV whatever, we don't get MTV but that same shit. It was awesome, it was really good, we watched the whole thing. Her record is one of my favorite records of the year. She's a great singer.
Joanne: Yeah, one of my friends loves her and she's like ask them what they think about Pink!
David: Tell her she rocks. That's what I think.
David: I love sushi. In Japan, its more like simple stuff, it's really fresh and simple. But I prefer the Americanized sushi like the funky rolls like pineapple and shit like that.
David: That's a hard question. Uh, I dunno, like maybe. I know it sounds weird but for now I think I've accomplished a lot of things in my life, and I know I still haven't for a lot of things. Other different things but I've always wanted to play music and now I finally get to do it. Everybody...doesn't...or not...what am I trying to say…like not a lot of people know how hard work it is and a lot of people think its just the coolest life, and now we're all dying because we've been on the road for too long. But we've been out before the CD came out since like February and we haven't stopped. If you looked at our schedule, I've seen my girlfriend 20 times this past year.
David: I do. Don't talk shit about somebody that you don't know, because it's going to get back to you in any kind of ways in life. It's bad karma and uh…try to be the smartest one you know what I mean. Some people talk shit and like some bands talk shit about us, I've never met them. Like c'mon you know if you want to tell me to my face or whatever. You might not like the music but if you talk about us as persons and shit come to me and tell me. And another thing if you think you can't do it your totally wrong because everybody can. We did it, I'm not saying that we're on top of the world, we're far from being there, but I'm still really far from my hometown. Like my hometown's the smallest town you've ever heard of and it's like not even 10,000 population. When everybody was laughing at me because I was either practicing in my basement or working at McDonald's to save some money to go to California and learn how to speak English…I'm not the best at it, I still can't have a conversation,
Nat: You fooled me…*laughter*
David: But, I just did what I wanted to do and uh, don't let anybody make you believe that you can't do it because that's bullshit. I could probably say wisdom things for an hour, but those are one of the most important and…Pink rocks!
